Apple has already confirmed that they will be holding an event next Wednesday to update their product line. The question now is what will they be announcing? One of the things that they will probably talk about is the fourth generation iPhone software update. Today that’s what I am going to focus on. Here is what I think will be included in iPhone OS 4.0.

Multitasking

The fact that you can only run one app at a time on the iPhone is in my opinion one of the phone’s biggest flaws. Hopefully, Apple will fix this with iPhone OS 4.0. If Apple can implement multitasking, it will totally change the iPhone and what I think about it. The company has been claiming that multitasking will kill the phone’s battery quicker but I think that once Apple comes out with new hardware and adds a better battery, this will not be an excuse anymore.

New home screen layout

The iPhone’s home screen is getting a little old and stale, in my opinion. Hopefully, in OS 4.0 they will come up with a way for the user to customize the home screen and change the layout.

Replying to SMS messages with out opening up the Messages app

Now, I know there is an app in Cydia for this but I don’t remember what it’s called. But, if Apple were to add a feature where you dont have to tap the reply button and be sent back to the Messages app every time somebody sends you a test message when you are in another app then I would be happy and I know it would save me A LOT of time.

What are some features you want to see in the next generation iPhone software?

We all know that some time soon Apple is going to hold an event and update its product line for the holiday season. Here are some of the updates that I expect Apple to make at the predicted event.

1. Updated Macbooks and Macbook Pros

I expect Apple to keep the $999.99 base price on the white Macbooks but make some great changes. Starting with design; I expect apple to give the Macbook some new colors and maybe a newer design. I also expect a built-in battery with higher battery life and possibly a FireWire 800 port.

For the Macbook Pros I expect only a price drop and a bigger hard drive.

2. Mac Mini price drop

I expect Apple to lower the Mac Minis price by $100 to $499 and $599 and include a $699 model with better specs.

3. Updated iMac

I predict that Apple will make the chin on the iMac smaller but will not remove it completely. I do not see Blu-Ray being included in any new iMacs. I do however predict that Apple will include an SD card slot as seen in the Macbook pros.

4. No Apple Tablet this year folks

I do not expect Apple to release an Apple Tablet this year. Possibly in spring 2010..

Apple has issued invitations for it’s September 9th event in San Francisco. The tag line for this event is, “It’s only rock and roll but we like it,” witch gives me the idea that, like last year, they will be focusing on the iPod.

I predict that they will defiantly be making some changes to the iPod Touch, possibly adding a camera and a speed increase. I think that they will also be making a few changes to the iPod Nanos and the Shuffles, possibly a wider selection of colors for the Shuffle and an internal speaker for the iPod Nano. As I do believe that they will be making some changes to the Shuffles and Nanos, I think that the changes to the iPod Touch will dominate the event.

I highly doubt that we will hear anything about an iTablet.

What do you think?
